New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has set out to blend a diverse variety of musicians and styles, drawing some of the best stars of popular music to its historic stages. This just makes sense that the birthplace of jazz is host to one of the most thrilling music festivals in the country. Historically, such plays included Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Dave Brubeck among several more. Now, you’re as likely to see the talents of current artists like Trombone Shorty and Branford Marsalis as you will for Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder.

This high-spirited celebration is second only to Mardi Gras’ success in New Orleans. The key festival takes place over two weekends in late April and early May, showcasing a diverse selection of musical styles from fusion to zydeco. Music challenges just the chance to taste New Orleans’ culinary specialties, including beignets, crawfish, po’boys, and jambalayas.

In a city so rich with tradition, the very heart of jazz can be found in New Orleans. Since its inaugural performance in 1970, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has become known as one of the summer’s largest music festivals and practically caters to all diverse ears. Both acts such as Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Maroon 5, and Lorde, music lovers can enjoy genres such as Folk, Rock, Bluegrass, and, most importantly, Jazz! The event takes place over two weeks, which ensures that you will hear all sorts of great sounds for six entire days without even needing to leave New Orleans.

Hundreds of food choices are available at the food booths that line the Fair Grounds, and the Jazz Fest fans know they’re getting hungry. There is also an abundance of Cajun, Creole, and other typical New Orleans foods, as well as many international-inspired meals, sweets, and beverages. Many of the classics include Crawfish Candy, crawfish rolls, crab cakes, fish tacos, crawfish enchiladas, roast beef po-boys and more.
